ACYPL is excited to announce that applications are now open for the 2014 Professional Fellows Legislative Process and Governance Program. We are looking for political, policy, and civil society leaders, between the ages of 25 and 40, from the Philippines, Malaysia, and Myanmar (Burma), to participate in a 4-week intensive fellowship in the United States. Fellows will spend time in Washington, DC and one other city learning the ins and outs of the US political system.
Applications are due by February 21st.
The Professional Fellows Legislative Process and Governance Program brings emerging leaders from around the world to the United States for intensive fellowships designed to broaden their professional expertise. Typically, participants are mid-career professionals actively involved in the legislative and/or policy-making process through their work in government, civic education organizations, citizen advocacy groups, political campaigns, political parties, or election monitoring organizations. Participants spend up to six weeks in the United States, during which they receive hands-on exposure to various levels of government through carefully designed full-time fellowships in national legislative offices, state legislatures, state or local government offices, advocacy groups, or other relevant organizations. Fellowships provide participants the opportunity to examine the relationship between civil society and government in the U.S., and how respective agencies and organizations work to strengthen citizen participation, transparency, and accountability. The program also establishes structured interaction among American and foreign participants designed to develop enduring professional ties and lasting partnerships. At the conclusion of their fellowships, participants travel to Washington, DC, for a three-day Professional Fellows Congress, where they have the opportunity to debrief and engage with more than 200 Professional Fellows from around the world.
